Royal Dubrovnik can work very well for families, particularly those who value large accommodations, multiple pools and a waterfront setting. But parents should not equate “private beach” with easy shallow water: the Adriatic access is rocky and deep, so the pools may be more important for younger or less-confident swimmers.
Why It Worked for My Family
The biggest advantage was choice. With several pools, indoor swimming, sea access, restaurants and a long promenade, we could change the rhythm of the day without leaving the resort. That mattered in August heat.
The Best Pool for Us
Our children preferred the freshwater pool beside Vista. It was warm, about 1.5 meters deep and convenient for lunch. The seawater pools were attractive but felt colder to them. The indoor pool was perfect when they were finished with the sun but not with the water.
The Sea Requires Confidence
The water is beautiful and extremely clear, but essentially all of the resort’s sea access is deep-water rock access. For confident swimmers, that can be exciting. For younger children, flotation devices and close supervision are important. There is no traditional shallow sandy area.
Suite Space Changes the Trip
Our Royal Princess one-bedroom suite gave four of us room to function comfortably, including a separate living room, pull-out sofa and two bathrooms. For American families accustomed to larger rooms, this is one of the resort’s strongest practical advantages.
Peak-Summer Strategy
Dubrovnik summer heat can make ambitious sightseeing difficult with younger children. I would treat a peak-summer stay primarily as a resort and water vacation, then choose Old Town visits and excursions strategically: early, later in the day or by water when possible.

Is Royal Dubrovnik good for families?
Yes, especially for families who value large rooms, several pools and a waterfront setting.
Is the sea access suitable for young children?
It is deep, rocky water access with no shallow sandy area. For younger or less confident swimmers, we would plan around the pools and use flotation and close supervision in the sea.
Which pool did the children like best?
The freshwater pool beside Vista: warm, about 1.5 meters deep and close to lunch.
