Luxury travellers are planning ahead for limited-availability villas, yacht charters, train cabins and cruises. What sells out first for 2027, and what can safely wait.

The short answer: because the things they want most are limited. Private villas, yacht charters, luxury train cabins, the best suites on small ships and connecting rooms for big families exist in small numbers, and the most popular dates go first. Booking far ahead is not about a deal. It is about getting the exact room, cabin or week you want.
What the data shows
Virtuoso reported in 2026 that leisure sales for trips one to two years away were up 50%. In a 2027 outlook from Travel Leaders Network, published in August 2026, 90% of respondents to its survey of top leisure sellers said they expected river cruise sales to grow, and three in four expected luxury cruise sales to rise by at least 5%.
Travellers are not just travelling more. They are planning further ahead.
What tends to go first
Luxury train cabins. Trains like the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express run a limited number of departures, and suites are few. Belmond currently lists a Paris to the Amalfi Coast journey for 22–25 April 2027; the cabin category and availability still need confirmation.
Private villas for summer and school holidays, especially large villas with staff.
Yacht charters in July and August in Croatia, Greece and Italy.
Suites and connecting rooms for multigenerational trips.
Small ships and river cruises on popular dates, especially the larger cabin categories.
Milestone dates. If the celebration falls on a fixed day, everything else has to fit around it.
What can safely wait
Restaurant reservations, beyond the most famous tables.
Most experiences and private guides, which we usually confirm closer to the date.
Flights, which often open around a year ahead.

We typically guide clients to secure the hardest piece first, the train, the villa or the ship, and then build the rest of the trip around it. That way nothing important is left to chance, and the details can be refined over the following months.

If 2027 already has a date in it that matters, it is worth starting the conversation now.
How far ahead should we plan a luxury trip for 2027?
For summer travel, trains, villas, yachts and celebrations, 9 to 15 months ahead is sensible. For shoulder season and simpler trips, six to nine months is usually enough.
What if our plans change?
Terms vary by supplier. We explain the deposit and cancellation terms of every booking before you commit.
Is booking early more expensive or cheaper?
Neither, as a rule. The main benefit is choice, not price.
