The short answer: choose a suite for hotel convenience with more privacy, a villa for outdoor living and separation, a residence when a kitchen, several bedrooms and longer-stay comfort matter, and a yacht when the coastline itself is the point. The best choice depends on who is travelling and how you imagine living in the space, not on the largest category available.
A couple who wants breakfast on a private terrace, a family that needs separation at bedtime and friends who want a place to gather may all need different answers.

Why privacy has become the new luxury
In the 2026 Virtuoso Luxe Report, 45% of advisors reported an increase in requests for "ultraluxe" travel, with ultraluxe defined in the report as having every detail seamlessly included. Private experiences were among the most requested ultraluxe options.
For many of our clients, the biggest luxury is not the thread count. It is not having to share the pool, the terrace or the view.
When a suite is the elegant answer
A suite works beautifully when you want a separate living area, stronger privacy and full hotel service without moving into a residential rhythm. It often suits couples celebrating something important, parents who want space after a child is asleep, or city travellers who value a sitting room more than a kitchen.
The view and floor plan still deserve close attention.

When a villa changes the holiday
A villa comes into its own when outdoor life matters. A private pool, garden, terrace and separate pavilions can make the property feel like a world of its own. Villas suit honeymoons, families and friends who want privacy.
Service models vary. Some villas feel fully hosted, with a house manager, chef and daily housekeeping. Others are hotel rooms with more space and a pool. A privately rented villa without staff can feel like hard work, so we always look at who will cook, clean and drive. Our villa rentals page and our look at family and group villas at Terre Blanche show what a well-run villa stay can look like.

When a residence is worth considering
Residences are often the most comfortable answer for several generations or a longer stay. Full kitchens, laundry, generous living areas and several bedrooms let everyone settle in.
The trade-off may be greater distance from the main hotel or a different housekeeping rhythm, so we look closely at location and resort access before recommending one.

When a private yacht is the right choice
A yacht is the answer when you want a different harbour or cove every day without packing, and when swimming and time outdoors matter more than space. It works best where the coastline is the point: Croatia, Greece, the Amalfi Coast, the Riviera.
Think twice if anyone in the group gets seasick, if you need a lot of personal space (even large yachts have compact cabins), or if your dates fall outside the main season, when weather can limit sailing. A small detail that changes the whole experience: the crew. A good captain and chef are worth more than an extra metre of yacht. Our Dubrovnik private yacht review shows how a family day on board can work, and our yacht page explains the types of charter.

Space is only useful when the layout works
A two-bedroom name does not prove equal bedrooms, ensuite bathrooms or suitable beds for children. A villa may have a detached room that feels too separate, while a residence may solve the same family more gracefully.
Floor plans, stairs, pool safety and night-time access should be understood before the room becomes the favourite.

Questions to answer before choosing
Who needs a private bedroom, bathroom or quiet living area?
Will you cook, entertain, work or spend long stretches in the accommodation?
Is a private pool essential, and what safety or heating questions apply?
Would dedicated host, butler or household service improve the trip?
How close do you want to be to restaurants, the beach, the pool and children's facilities?
Choosing your space
We compare the floor plan and daily service before the category name, and we connect the stay with transfers, dining and touring so the extra space feels useful throughout the trip, not just impressive on arrival. If you are weighing these options, start with how your group likes to spend an ordinary afternoon.
Is a hotel villa always more private than a suite?
Usually, but not automatically. Terrace exposure, neighbouring villas, footpaths and service access can affect privacy. The exact position matters.
Do residences include hotel services?
Many do, but housekeeping, breakfast, room service, resort access and private staff differ by property and category. The current inclusion list should be reviewed.
Is a villa better for a honeymoon?
It can be, especially when a pool and outdoor privacy matter. A beautiful suite may be the better choice when location, dining access and a stronger view lead the decision.
Which option is best for several generations?
A residence or a multi-bedroom villa often works well, but the bedrooms, stairs, pool, shared spaces and distance to the resort must suit every traveller.
Can we combine a villa and a yacht?
Yes, and it works beautifully: a week in a villa, then a few nights on board, or the reverse.
