My Secrets Playa Blanca Experience: Why This Adults-Only, All-Inclusive Resort is the Ultimate Destination

I had the absolute pleasure of being hosted by the Romance Travel Forum at Secrets Playa Blanca. After just a few days, I knew exactly which of my clients I’d be sending here next. Spoiler alert: it's perfect for destination weddings, honeymooners and anyone craving a luxurious, adults-only retreat.

Right away my favorite part of this resort is the aesthetics. The decor and design is stunning with modern boho finishes with light wood and natural details. The foliage is fresh and new and as it grows, will continue to add to the already lush green atmosphere.

As you walk through the resort, you’ll find unique pool areas like the jungle pool that has curves of intimate pool spaces mixed with the ever-growing tropical plants and trees. As you walk further through the resort, you’ll also find more vast and open pools including ones with an infinity edge and swim up bar with beautiful boulder accents that create a more natural atmosphere that adds to the aesthetics. There is one pool reserved for the preferred club section that offers pool side service with the preferred club lounge located behind it. Near the front of the resort, you have the jungle pool that is uniquely designed to look like you are lounging in your own private lush jungle pool with its own swim up bar surrounded by a few pool chairs and Bali beds available to rent.

During my stay there wasn’t an issue of ever getting a pool chair. Although the main pool with a swim-up bar was the busiest and often filled up, the neighboring pools offering poolside drink and food service were a pleasure to enjoy, with open seating galore. If a swim out room is your vibe, you’ll be happy to know that they are equally stunning and convenient, although since the foliage is young, there isn’t much privacy yet until they have some time to grow in. I love to offer the swim-out rooms to groups of friends or family that enjoy spending time together in the pool as they all open into one longer pool giving everyone an opportunity to socialize!

As you head to your room you can expect things only to get better! As you open your door you are greeted with a serenely decorated comfortable suite for your stay with a cozy bed, rainfall shower, a soaking tub inside and a soaking tub outside (depending on room category) and views from your balcony that are Instagram worthy! If you are hoping for the best of the beach/ocean views make sure you select the “Oceanfront” room category.

The finishes in the rooms are luxury and you can tell that it has been meticulously designed and well taken care of. And if you’re wondering how the air conditioning was on a 90degree day, it was cold and wonderful! One of my favorite features is the touchless room service “secret door” where you can order room service and if you have your “do not disturb” light on, the food will be placed in the secret door from the outside and you can access the food from a locked door on the inside of your room.

• They graciously provide a full array of toiletries for your comfort. All scented items are scented with a light white tea scent that makes you feel like you are right in the spa! Bathing Basics: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body wash/gel, Body Lotion, Bar Soap

• Bathing Amenities: Razor, Shower Cap, Toothbrush & Colgate toothpaste

• Other Helpful Items: Reef safe Sunscreen, Natural bug spray, Plastic Comb, Sewing Kit, Vanity Kit: 2 Q-tips and cotton pad, Nail file.

• What kind of Soda, beer, drinks and snacks are included in the mini bar?

• Drinks: Dos Equis beer, Sparkling water, Coke brand products, Orange Juice, bottled water

• A Nespresso Maker that includes a decaf option and various sugar and sugar substitute packets including stevia.

• Snacks: Usually a bag of flavored peanuts, a can of original pringles, and a bag of peanut M&M’s*

Helpful tip: If you want more of something or want something taken out of the room be sure to call room service and explain your preferences. If you are in a preferred room category your Butler can assist during their working hours.

Once you are unpacked it’s finally time to start relaxing, and this resort is perfect or just that. Once unpacked, it's time to relax. The resort's activities, listed on the Hyatt all inclusive app, range from yoga to cocktail making, salsa dance classes, and waterpolo/volleyball and aerobics. The Spa and gym were still under construction during my visit but promise to be full of serene, luxurious amenities. Looking to play a round of golf? Guests can access discounted rates at the nearby Playa Mujeres Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman.

Evenings at Secrets Playa Blanca offer surprising nightlife for a seemingly quieter resort. The theater hosts incredible shows with dancers and singers. The Rendezvous Bar is perfect for pre-dinner or after-dinner drinks with its sunken-in 360-degree bar and surrounding evening entertainment like live music and dance classes. My favorite? The silent disco!

There are beautiful gathering areas throughout the property to enjoy with your friends and loved ones like a sunken- in lounge with a firepit surrounded by water, large fire pits to enjoy with bigger groups and smaller more intimate fire pit areas overlooking the beach they really make you say wow to incredible views at night.

With no reservations required (apart from required reservations for Hibachi/Teppanyaki tables) you’ll have the opportunity to dine at nine delicious restaurants at Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres including - six à la carte restaurants, one buffet, a grill and a café with gelato and of course 24-hour room service.

With 9 Bars and lounges including the Rendezvous bar, Barracuda beach bar, Desires Nightclub, Sugar Reef Sports bar, 2 swim up bars, and 2 bars/lounges dedicated to the preferred club, you’ll have no shortage of places to find a delicious cocktail or refreshing mocktail.

Whether your destination wedding vision looks like a pristine beach wedding overlooking turquoise water, an intimate tropical setting with twinkly lights, or a secluded terrace overlooking the beauty of the resort and ocean, the wedding locations at Secrets Playa Blanca along with the amazing wedding department is sure to make your special day unforgettable!

With 11 wedding and event locations with a maximum capacity of 500 guests and the beauty if this resort and its amazing staff, there is no question that Secrets Playa Blanca is one of my favorite resorts in Mexico for an adult-only, all-inclusive destination wedding.

The beach wedding location here is along a pristine stretch of white sand beach. Leaving the beauty of nature shine it doesn’t need a lot of extras to create a wow factor. With a cool ocean breeze to comfort you and your guests, everyone will be in absolute awe of your ceremony. Since Costa Mujeres is a newly developed area and in a gated community, you won’t have to worry about anyone passing down the beach as the area is surprisingly more private.

For more private ceremony locations off the beach, I love the Portofino Roof top location for a panoramic view of the beautiful resort and the ocean. The Contoy Plaza also offers a unique setting for a ceremony with aesthetic frames in the modern Mexican space mixed with the design of your wedding giving off a very grand impression.

For a more tropical location, the Jungle pool takes you to tropical paradise with lush greens and beautiful pools setting the mood for an intimate ceremony or reception with your loved ones.

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres very quickly became one of my favorite resorts for adults-only all-inclusive getaways and upscale destination weddings with its stunning beauty and exceptional and friendly service. Visiting a newly opened resort comes with a few hiccups of course; Dinner service was occasionally slow, likely due to new staff getting into their groove. Other things to note: the beach is beautiful but can be windy with some no-swim days and If booking a swim-out suite, keep your patio door closed to keep mosquitoes out.

Food-wise, All-inclusive resorts are about fun and variety, so don’t expect haute cuisine at every meal. Portions are small, so you can try a bit of everything. And lastly, the preferred club is worth it if you want to be pampered with butler service and enjoy a dedicated pool, though the lounge alone might not justify the upgrade yet.
